Vancouver Takes 2-0 Lead
The Canucks held home ice advantage with a 3-2 overtime win in Game 2 on Saturday night. The Bruins came out with a much stronger effort but they could not prevent Vancouver’s Alexandre Burrows capitalising on a breakdown in the opening seconds of overtime to give his team a 2-0 lead.
Burrows had originally opened the scoring on the power-play in a first period dominated by a fast and physical Vancouver team. Boston once again struggled to get their transition game going and really got outplayed for most of the first. However, the momentum of the game switched completely towards the end of the period and the second would be dominated by the Bruins. Milan Lucic eventually tied the score sliding a loose puck under Roberto Luongo. Mark Recchi then got a tip on a Zdeno Chara slap shot to give Boston a power-play tally and a 2-1 lead. They were guilty of sitting back early in the third though and the Canucks piled on the pressure almost scoring on several goal mouth scrambles before notched his ninth of the playoffs just before the halfway mark of the period. Boston would last until overtime, but it took Vancouver just 11 seconds to secure the win when mis-communication and lazy play saw a loose puck bounce out in front of the net where Burrows forced it in for his second of the game and a vital winner.
