Boston Smashes Vancouver To Pull One Back
The Bruins sealed an incredible 8-1 victory to pull their Stanley Cup Finals series back in a crowd-pleasing performance in Game 3 on Monday night.
Boston had struggled to get anything going offensively in Games 1 and 2 in Vancouver, but they exploded in Game 3 putting eight past a helpless Roberto Luongo and Canucks defense. The game didn’t necessarily start out particularly unusually for the series as Vancouver largely controlled the first period and only a few quality saves from Tim Thomas kept the score tied at 0-0. The Bruins suffered another blow as early in the period Nathan Horton was knocked out of the game after taking a late hit from Aaron Rome. It would be later revealed that Horton had suffered a concussion and would miss the rest of the series. Boston attacked with renewed energy in the second period and for the first time in the series generated consistent speed through the neutral zone. Andrew Ference got the game’s first goal 11 seconds into the second when he lobbed a shot from the blue-line, which somehow found its way in. Mark Recchi then connected on a power-play when his shot bounced off a Canuck and past Luongo. Brad Marchand would make it 3-0 on a spectacular individual effort when he skated the puck past several Canucks while shorthanded and then waited out Luongo. David Krejci would score on a rebound from a Michael Ryder shot and suddenly the game was 4-0 after two periods. Thomas remained superb without making 40 saves in total. Daniel Paille added a second shorthanded goal, before Jannik Hansen finally got Vancouver on the board to make it 5-1 with just seven minutes left in the game. Boston would rack up three more goals in the last three minutes as the Canucks appeared to throw the towel in. Recchi, Chris Kelly and Ryder got the tallies. The win pulls the series back to 2-1 with Game 4 on Monday night.
