Daily Round-up Jan 26
There was just one game on Wednesday night, the last night of NHL action before the All-Star break, but it was a big one for the Montreal Canadiens, and they would make it count.
Montreal thrashed Detroit 7-2 to enter the All-Star break with the firm announcement that they are still very much in the playoff race. Erik Cole’s line was dominant once again. Cole had a goal and two assists, David Desharnais scored twice and added an assist, while Max Pacioretty had a goal and an assist. There were also goals for Alexei Yemelin, Tomas Plekanec and Rene Bourque, while Carey Price made 26 saves. He conceded just two third period goals both to Jiri Hudler. Jimmy Howard was pulled after allowing four goals on 12 shots in the first period, Ty Conklin allowed three goals on 13 shots the rest of the way. In general, it was an awful effort from the Red Wings.
