Jaromir Jagr Turns 40
One of the great players of his era turns 40 today. Jaromir Jagr has spent the last 22 years impressing the hockey world with his incredible raw talent. It is amazing to look back on a career that began in 1990-91 with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where an 18-year old baby-faced smiling young man started what would be an amazing career.Jagr has amassed 1,638 points in 1,321 games including five seasons where he scored 100+ points. He spent the last three seasons in Russia, but a dominant World Championships in 2011 got a lot of NHL teams interested in acquiring the veteran’s services. He obliged signing with the Philadelphia Flyers, and despite turning 40, he has more than proven that he still has ‘it’.
He has been a leader of a young Flyers’ offense, which has surprised many with its strong performance despite trading away centers Mike Richards and Jeff Carter last summer. Jagr has been the winger on the team’s top line featuring Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell, where he has scored 13 goals and 39 points in 48 games.
Coach Peter Laviolette will want to keep his veteran fresh for the playoffs, where he also has an excellent record. Besides being a part of two Cup winning teams, Jagr has scored 181 points in 169 games.
